Total Fitness: From Athletes to Actors

Athletes are, in essence, performers too, because they do “stage” their skills before an audience. And so, it shouldn’t come as a great surprise when sports stars suddenly go from athlete to actor at some point in their careers.

While they may not win acting awards in general, many have no doubt made their mark (and bigger bucks) in the land of show business.

Here are some of the local and international sports icons who have made the successful transition from the world of sports to tinseltown.

MANNY PACQUIAO. Arguably the most popular international athlete the Philippines has ever produced, Manny Pacquiao has rightfully earned the world’s respect and awe with his unparalleled boxing prowess. He has seven world titles in seven different weight divisions. For his achievements, Pacquiao was named The Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year in 2006, 2008, and 2009; the Boxing Writers Association of America Fighter of the Year in 2006, 2008 and 2009; the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 2009; and the HBO Sports and the Boxing Writers Association of America “Fighter of the Decade” from 2000 to 2009. He was listed in Forbes Magazine as the World’s 6th Highest Paid Athlete with a total annual income of $40,000,000 or P2 billion. He was also listed as the 57th Most Influential Celebrity in the World by Forbes Magazine, and No. 22 in the Top 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine.

Aside from being a boxer, Pacquiao has participated in acting, music recording, and very recently, politics, when he was elected as Sarangani’s representative to the 15th Congress of the Philippines. No doubt, this boxing, TV, and movie hero is a total performer!
